The assessment technique is well-constructed and planned before the lesson. Examples are a paper test, like for an essay test, a performance test, like for a poetry recitation, or a portfolio assessment, like for a writing notebook.
Remember to give a deadline for the students (finished by the end of the class or finished first thing tomorrow, as in a take home test). Also remember to take in account how long it will take for your students to finish the assessment or for you to assess your students (as in a performance assessment).
Always make the key of your assessment before your lesson to ease in grading. Return the assessment test graded with comments as your feedback to your students of how well (or not so well) they did. Remember, your students rely on grades to gauge their academic achievement.
