The Objective tries to reach higher-level cognitive skills as listed
in Bloom’s Taxonomy. For those you who don’t know about Bloom, here are
the levels of cognitive skills from lowest to highest: Knowledge, Comprehension,
Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. In my example, my Objective
reaches for Knowledge (the identification) and Application (the
diagramming).
The Objective can be measured in an assessment technique. For example,
I can ask my students to name the parts of the plot
line and then diagram the parts on a chart. That chart becomes
the measurement of how the student met my Objective.
